Interestingly, most poker games do not assign any rank to the suits and the value of an ace of spades and an ace of clubs are equal. However, in order to decide which of the players will be the dealer, when each player have received a card and there is tie regarding the rank of cards, then to solve the issue, a random hierarchy of suit has been assigned. It must be remembered that there is no standard rule universally followed in all poker games to determine the rank of suits. Moreover, even when a particular poker variant is being played, the ranking vary from country to country so that the rule followed in the games played in the United States will be different than in games played in France.

The two commonest way of ranking the suit of cards is by using alternate colors. So, the ascending order of suit hierarchy would be diamonds, clubs, hearts and spades and this card value by suit is also used in Chinese card games like the Choi Dai Di. Another way of assigning a value to the suits is using the alphabetic order. So, now the clubs becomes the lowest suit and the spades still remain the highest suit. In addition, the dealer in poker games must handle the pot, which means he is the authority to make sure that the amount of wagers put into it by the players during calling and raising is correct. Besides, the dealer is required to collect the cards of the players who have quitted the game by folding their hands and put the cards in the discarded card pile. If a poker game spills into side pot(s) situation, the dealer has to maintain the side pot(s) along with the main pot. When showdown takes place, it is the dealer’s job to calculate the value of the cards and find out who emerges as the pot’s winner and or in case of ties, winners.
